The search function is available since a few days, we have no fix for our machine problems but
turning off 3 of the 4 cpus makes the machine stable. This however makes us running low on resources
so it can be slow from time to time.

Suck... all search services is once again down, we are still having problem with on of our database
server and are trying to get a trace output from when it is panicing. The problem is that the
machine panics when we use all four CPUs so then we have our trace we will move to a single
processor kernel and all services will come back up, there is a problem with this to and that is
that we can't cope all stuff that this server does with one cpu so things might be a little slow.

Suck... the database server that houses the search index is down again, we have had a lot of
problems with that lately and have no solution to it right now. The machine will probably be
rebooted tomorrow and then it will take about 24h to reload the databases.

As you might have noticed there have been a lot of problems lately, the problems derive from a
machine that has crashed with week intervals. We use this machine to build our search indexes, and
due to the crapiness of MySQL MyISAM it becomes corrupt every time the machine crashes and we need
to reload the server with fresh data which takes 24 hours every time and parts of the search index
will be unavailable during this time. We think that the problem is due to an old kernel that by
mistake made it into our production environment, hopefully the problem has been solved, we will see
in about a week :)
We are working on converting the archive to PostgreSQL.

As you might have notices we have had some problems lately, the problems came from a broken raid
card in our main server (tellus.netbsd.se). Dell has replaced it for us and we are hopping that
everything is back to normal. All services are back to normal except the fulltext search, we are
reloading one of our database machines with data as it got corrupted when the main server crashed.
ETA a couple of hours for the reload and a bunch of more hours to rebuild the fulltext indexes.

This is what has happend, our main databaser server has crashed and it seems like it will stay like
that :(, we are running on one database machine right now and that one is very very busy. We are
hoping that we can order a new machine this week.

The web was down for a few hours (dont know how long), our primary database server decided to block
the webserver because it apparently was sending to many connection errors. The problem is fixed and
will not happend again.

Why have we done all this database work recently?
The answer is that we today introduced a new mailparser that will be able to decode all mime
messages, save all attachments. This function will only apply to new messages :( and you will not be
able to download the attachments until we have implementet this function on the webpages.

And finally.... the old server died for us and a new one has been bought and installed. The backlog
of 95 000 mails took about 21 hours to archive.
Another nice thing is that one more database sever has been acquired (Sun Enterprise 450, with 4
cpus and 2GB of memory) and as soon as we are done with it replication will be set up to ge a more
scalable system.

We have started to import backuped mbox files of the lists, but the work goes slow due to high
server load.
I try to import may/juni/july for at least a couple of lists/day. Two new disks are orderd to be
used in a raid1

The archive is responding slow from time to time, this is due to veeeeeery slow disks, i'm currently
investigating
if i can get a hold of a faster disk or maybe a scsi array :) ~29000 mails.
Of course 29k mails is not a big amount of data and the load on the machine is not very high
but when alot of searches is hiting the disk the performance is going down.

Updated mysql to version 4.0.17, est downtime was 40 min. After the update of mysql another problem
occured
the box was running out of mclpool (nmbclusters) and the machine started to drop packets, the
problem was solved
by increasing nmbcluster and a reboot, another 20-30 min of downtime :(.
